I’m too lazy to find it right now, but there was a fascinating article from the 90’s I remember reading with a breakdown of the perspective that Through the Looking Glass was a take-down of a lot of the cutting edge mathematical theories being explored in his time.

There's a fascinating annotated edition by mathematician Martin Gardener called The Annotated Alice. He talks about the mathematical underpinnings of the story, as well as a lot of Victorian-era poets and writers who were also an influence.

I have that one, it's a really interesting read.

Am I misremembering, or was he also disturbingly obsessed with an underaged girl?

Yes, but he just really really loved children. He just had pictures of naked children all over his wall because he loved their purity! Really! Alice's family said so and they wouldn't lie!

According to the foreword of my Alice's Adventures in Wonderland edition.

His math and logic works are a good read. The Game of Logic (1886) for one.
