Her husband supported her, and part of her reasoning was that women would prefer a female doctor.

Damn, she died at just 21? That's tragic. She clearly had a ton of potential. But at least she inspired others and left a positive legacy.

if i am not wrong, it is a fancy nose ring. many indian traditions have some ornament worn across the nose, many times it is then stringed back to ear or hair from the sides. it is for ornamental purposes only afaik
