They meant rape as in the plant to be clear

That's why we call it canola oil

Also, here is where rapeseed comes from:

This is one marketing rebranding I can get behind.

Yeah they're all part of the Brassica family. Canola is a bred cultivar of Rapeseed with low levels of erucic acid suited for human consumption and very widely grown so while not completely synonymous with Rapeseed using the term Canola is usually correct especially with respect to the cooking oil.

Oh, so that was why my Dad would yell "I'm gonna canola you in the mouth" every night.

The canola oil I buy has rape seed in the ingredients. In very small type, of course.

Probably they produce a lot of rapeseed and honey.

When you are raping it's important to control your seed.
