I'm migrating away from lemm.ee and I want to open my Saved posts on lemm.ee, then open them on db0, and then save the posts on my db0 account.

I linked my bluesky account to bridgyfed, what instances will show my account and not say “error”?

I'm looking for a new instance since lemm.ee is closing by the end of the month. What's a good instance to be on these days?

I want to be part of the solution of the problems I see on Lemmy, that is why I opened my alt account at my current server to open new communities while fixing their issues.

I admin a Facebook group with just about 30k people in it. It used to be great, and over the past few years the enshittification has been too much. Lately there is an out of control Facebook AI bot posting constantly pissing everyone off that we can't seem to turn off. I only use FB for the group, and don't have their spyware - I mean, app - installed and wont. Admin abilities are severely limited on the webapp.

I think this was asked by someone already, but I do wonder. I think it would be cool if my sister joined the Fediverse (but blocked NSFW content). She is a high school freshman, but I can’t have her join an instance where you must be an adult.

I know rekabu.ru does because I was looking for Russian-language instances and found that, what else uses it??

I tried to enter chachara.club but it didn't work. When I went to my account, the account he showed me was that of lemmy.ml. It says that I have no posts or comments on my account and I know that I have posts. What's going on?

You might've heard that search sucks on software X... maybe software Y... definitely on software Z. The default one kind of sucks on NodeBB too, admittedly.

I'm a fan of wafrn (wafrn.net), its a tumblr-like thing.

This applies to any of the microblogging software. Akkoma, IceShrimp, etc. I go to any Lemmy instance, big or small, and the up/downvote data and replies are basically all the same. The same goes for Peertube, and most services that aren't Mastodon and the gang. Why is this? Is it because of older design? Unexpected issues cropping up with scale? It seems to be such a big struggle over there, but for everyone else, it's whatevs.

I want to join the Fediverse. I don’t have a computer or anything to make something like a Lemmy instance, and I found that NodeBB will easily allow you to make a forum quickly, but I have to pay to do so. Should I just pay when I can or is there a free way to make a federated instance on a software?

Hi everyone, I just created a PeerTube account on https://makertube.net/ and wanted to subscribe to a channel on a different instance. I click subscribe and get the pop-up that I have subscribed, however when I reload the page it's gone again, and nothing shows up in my subscriptions. It does the same thing for different channels on different instances. What's going on?

My main home and favourite place om the fediverse slrpnk.net has been down for what feels like 48hrs. I dont know how to check where or why its down of there even is a message about it. Does anyone know anything regarding this?

Pewds has been dabbling more in Linux and engineering content lately, and considering he's essentially retired and doesn’t rely on YouTube ad revenue anymore, wouldn’t it be amazing if he also started posting his videos on PeerTube in parallel?

As per title. I've been wondering about this. How can we help when someone managing a community/instance can't find help locally, for whatever reason? Something like an "help wanted" board. Even if it's for one month, three months, etc.

When an instance goes down, all of the images on it go with it. there's going to be a lot from lemm.ee, especially given its size.

Edit: unexpectatly we are back online. Will share how we found a solution later. There might be still some federation issues though.

I'm a happy lemm.ee user and a mod of a small community hosted there. I'm also subscribed to a bunch of communities on lemm.ee. Sadly, they have just announced that they will be shutting it down. I understand that I can open an account on another instance and subscribe to the same communities. For my own community, I can probably re-create it on my new instance and DM every subscriber. But how do I find all the communities from lemm.ee in their new places? I'd like some practical advice.

While I understand the concept of federation I'm unclear as to what it actually entails at a technical level. When lemm.ee eventually shuts down, will all of that user content (posts, comments, votes, etc) cease to exist? Is it mirrored on other instances?

For me Lemmy was my gateway to the rest of the Fediverse. I can say I like Lemmy way more than I ever did Reddit. The people are nicer the engagement feels more real and over all it’s a better vibe. Here’s to 2 more everyone!

I'm just curious if anyone knows of an effort to build a federated version of something like Thingiverse, Printables, Thangs, etc. I'm not really a fan of the centralized control, commercial tie-ins and profit motivations of those and similar sites, but the community of collaboration and remixing designs means they are basically indispensable for time efficient 3d printing, they're basically like the Github of 3d printing.

I created this community https://hilariouschaos.com/c/ComicStrips just a few hours back. When l'm trying to search for this community from this account and my other lemmy accounts, this particular community is not showing up. However, when I'm trying to make a post to this community by copy pasting the URL in this body section, it's landing me directly on the page and accepting my post as that of the moderator's, which is me of course.

I found https://wanderer.to/ as an alternative to alltrails, but it seems not to address my main use case for alltrails: search around for potential hikes, look for reviews about them, photos, etc.

I have three teenage daughters who are currently not allowed on social media. But I want to give them some ability before they become adults. My eldest gave me a PowerPoint presentation on why she should be allowed on Snapchat, lol. 

So, I am one of those old school types who mains with Firefox and Noscript. And also a filthy casual that just goes on lemmy.world. But half the images are broken because I'm expected to allow scripts on like 30+ sites to see most of the posts. I'm literally expected to allow /all/ the scripts from a domain just so I can see a dang picture behind the thumbnail. That's the entirety of the scripting needed. That seems ridiculous. Is there, I don't know, a server/way that makes it so I don't have to blanket allow all these scripts? To put it in meme form (not sure I'm doing it right, never seen the show): "It's an image of a banana Michael, what should it take, one Raspberry Pi running Docker?"

how much does running a mastodon instance of 1000 users* costs? Disabling Images and *allowing only text is one of my condition. So if I do that, will that change cost? I am thinking of a VPS so that i can have greater control over instance functionality

I am a reddit refugee from the mod wars. I love it here. I originally made an mbin account but then 9 months ago mbin seemed to die so I made a new fedia.io account and things have been going swimmingly so far.

Lemmy needs AI features integrated, this would help increase the efficiency of poster and commenter workflows, allowing for maximal upvotes per minute, and as a consequence it increases engagement across all communities. The direct increase in output of posters when they enhance their workflow with LLMs is staggering, and comments per minute for each post go through the roof. This allows for discussions to be longer, and LLMs can be deployed on the site in such a way as to write comments that leave the reader desperate to see what the next reply is, even further boosting how many hours people spend on each post.

Feddit.org announced today that they are changing their rules to match German law despite their server not being hosted in Germany.
