Community iconc/palestine@lemmy.ml by

I watched a football match .. and rejoiced when the Palestinian national team scored the equalizing goal.. but I was ashamed of myself !!
How they scatter in joy! How they dance in delight!! And how I continue to follow the match !!
And simultaneously with it, a mother was killed in a bombing and left her two-year-old son orphaned!!
And in the morning, we buried two children and their father and mother and grandmother!

I am not calling for chronic mourning .. nor am I a joy-killing grump ..
But I am astonished by our ability as humans to shed the reality of things and immerse ourselves in trivial margins that we scramble over their frivolity!

Never mind .. just a fleeting thought .. sorry for bothering you

Axonius is commonly described as an American company. While its headquarters and administrative functions are in New York, its founders, senior executives, and its primary financiers are all Israeli, and, critically, its software and engineering functions are based in Tel Aviv. Axonius has more than eight-hundred employees, and a search of LinkedIn profiles confirms that a majority of Axonius’s engineers in Tel Aviv have a background in Israeli military intelligence.

The Biggest Heist in America Is Being Sold as a Gift to Children (counterpunch.org)

Community iconc/usa@lemmy.ml by
davel@lemmy.ml

America loves a good illusion. It loves the performance of generosity from people who built their fortunes on systems that leave everyone else scrambling. That’s why the country is celebrating Michael and Susan Dell dropping $6.25 billion into “Trump Accounts.” Twenty-five million kids will get $250 each in a special savings account that they can’t touch for almost two decades. It sounds like generosity. It plays like hope. It sells like opportunity. But it isn’t any of that. It’s a corporate heist dressed up as philanthropy, and America is too exhausted or too desperate to notice.

Am I doing more long-term harm than good with this? Why does it feel so good on my back but is bad for it? Is it just not recommended for long periods of time but beneficial for shorter periods?

Why do vehicle insurance premiums go up & down for seemingly no reason? Should I contact my insurance company to inquire?

Community iconc/asklemmy@lemmy.world by
LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world

These are my most recent monthly State Farm vehicle insurance payments, from most recent ($114.35) to sometime back in 2021 ($69.32). I have no control over how much or little they decide to take out of my bank account every month. I noticed it steadily going up over the months until suddenly my December payment DECREASED by $16.75. I really don’t feel like contacting my insurance company with this trifling question but I am curious what affects their fluctuating prices.

The study authors believe an eruption occurred around 1345, about two years before the start of the pandemic, from either a single volcano or a cluster of volcanoes of unknown location, likely in the tropics. The resulting haze from volcanic ash would have partially blocked sunlight across the Mediterranean region over multiple years, causing temperatures to drop and crops to fail.

Community iconc/til@lemmy.world by

The Soviet system used psychiatry as a weapon by diagnosing political opponents as mentally ill in order to confine them as patients instead of trying them in court. Anyone who challenged the state such as dissidents, writers, would-be emigrants, religious believers, or human rights activists could be branded with fabricated disorders like sluggish schizophrenia. This turned normal political disagreement into supposed medical pathology and allowed the state to present dissent as insanity.
